Audition Checklist:

  1. Fill out the online Google form (right click or control click to open in new window) stating your intent to audition
  2. Fill out and sign the Signature Page (right click or control click to open in new window)
    1. Write a check to “Reading Symphony Youth Orchestra” for $20 for the audition fee.
  3. Mail the Signature Page and check to the RSO Office.Reading Symphony Orchestra

  4. Prepare the Music for the audition (See below)

 

Music for the Audition

1- Scales

Played at a minimum speed of MM quarter note = 60, separate bow, using 1 quarter note/pitch

Scales to be played per instrument (Student chooses 2)

Instrument Scales with octaves to be played
Violin C,G,D-2 octaves, F-1 octave
Viola C,G,D-2 octaves, F-1 octave
Cello C,G,D-2 octaves, F-1 octave
Bass C,G,D,F-1 octave

2- Solo - For Section Players / Unprotected Seats

Any solo equal or greater in difficulty to the following suzuki book 2 solo attached-please discuss with a teacher or email rsjsooperations@gmail.com

Students auditioning for protected seats/chamber program-PMEA District 10 Solo (p. 1 only)

  • Violin – Mozart, Violin Concerto no. 3 in G major, 1st movement only (no cadenza), edited by Sam Franko, Schirmer Edition
  • Viola – J.C. Bach, Viola Concerto in C minor, Salabert Edition
  • Cello – Goltermann, Concerto No. 4 in G Major, Op. 65, edited by Julius Klengel and Leonard Rose – International Edition
  • Bass – Marcello, Sonata 2, Adagio and Allegro (from Six Sonatas for Cello or Double Bass and Piano), Schirmer Edition
